The Question
Should Vice President Harris make a serious play here in Florida? Yes, and here is why.
The national momentum & enthusiasm is contagious. Already 22,000 Floridians have volunteered to help with the campaign. And a Florida Atlantic University poll released this morning shows Harris now leads Trump 50% to 47%.
An issue that is driving women and others is an amendment to the State’s constitution regarding abortion rights. Vice President Harris has made two visits to the state regarding the abortion rights issue.
The oldest and largest Latino organization in the country endorsed Vice President Harris. This endorsement is the first in its 95-year history will influence Florida’s Latinos.
The state Democratic Party installed Nikki Fried as its state chair. In 2018 she was elected statewide as a Democrat…a first in years and served as Florida’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Consumer Services. She has strengthened the state party and Democrats have candidates running in every corner of the state. A vigorous get-out-the-vote (GOTV) party effort coupled with the Harris for President grassroots movement will elect Democrats.
It’s important for Democrats to control the U. S. Senate in 2025. Florida has a Senate set on the ballot which will attract national funding and significant attention.
The national Harris-Walz camp should not let Governor DeSantis’ 19% reelection in 2022 stand in the way of playing in Florida. It must be recalled he won his first race by less than one percent with the support of then President Trump. As a presidential candidate himself DeSantis flunked out in Iowa.
A strong successful 2024 campaign should entice congressional candidates in 2026.
Certainly this answers the question “should Vice President Harris play in Florida?”
