Masquerade
There is a convention underway in Milwaukee Masquerading as the Republican National Convention. Let me tell you it is not the Republican party. I should know. For seventy-three years I was an active participant in all things Republican. What is taking place in Milwaukee is a gathering of MAGA followers. The MAGA cult is more extreme than The John Birch Society (JBS) founded in 1958…and that is dangerous.
Robert Welch founder of the John Birch Society (JBS) thought President Dwight D. Eisenhower was a communist agent. The JBS membership and influence grew quickly, thought to be over 100,000 with chapters nationwide. That’s nothing compared to the MAGA cult following. Conservative writer William F. Buckley, Jr. in the 1960’s attempted to shun the JBS to the fringes of the American right. But the John Birch Society still lives with its headquarters in Appleton, Wisconsin.
The 21st-century John Birch Society among other things wants to defund the United Nations, slash the federal government drastically by abolishing the departments of education and energy which fits right in with Trump’s Project 2025.
Project 2025 plans include…getting rid of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which forecasts weather, using the military to carry out mass deportations and reinstating the draft. Beyond that, it includes restrictions on reproductive care and abortions. Other examples give Trump the power to investigate his opponents and politicize the federal workforce. The 925 page Project 2025 has hundreds of scary ideas.
The naming of Senator J. D. Vance as the MAGA vice presidential candidate confirms my Republican Party is gone.
